On the Journey of Data Collection!
Welcome back to my research project! I hope that you had a great holiday season and that you spent some great time with your family and friends! I got the opportunity to spend some time in India and I wanted to share some of the pictures I took that were super fun!
While abroad, on the plane I spent some quality time watching the movie Queen & Slim which helped me take some ideas of critical race in the movie industry to help with my literature review. However after having a refreshing break I was ready to come back to AP Research!
Literature Review aka READING, READING, READING!
(What Have I Done? and Choices I Have Made!)
After a restful break, I came back into AP Research and began the first part of my research journey and that was conducting a full literature review to develop my critical race theory metric. I first sought out different sources through EBSCO that is provided by the College Board. But, in order to gather some more unique resources, I met with my mentor Ms. Burnham many times to make sure that I was getting the professional help that I needed to guide me through the process.
Right now, I am developing the metric that will be used as my measure of comparison when I actually read the diversity statement and equity policies. Attached is the JeffCo diversity statement that was taken from the website (jeffcopublicschools.org) on January 28, 2022, this would be an example of a statement I will be soon analyzing.
In my literature review not only am I using books and papers, but I am also using magazines and podcasts that have been super important in helping me find the information that I need!
Although I am a little behind since I have missed school due to various events, I still should be on track to complete my project with plenty of time left!
The reading and AP Research doesn't stop! Here's me at the Broadmoor while at the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference! My choir won first place in the state and was invited to perform in late January but I made sure to stay up with my reading!

Here is a super cool podcast that I have used in my literature review! It has helped me formulate my metric a lot!
What Has Changed?
There hasn't been any major changes to my project other than the fact that I am going to add more school districts in the Denver Metro area (adding Aurora Public Schools)!
Whats Next?
Creating School District Ranking
Using my Metric to Compare Against School Districts
Thanks for staying on my journey! Will keep you updated soon!
