Looking back on my research, I can review on what changes I would've made during the process. To reflect on what my project looked like, we can remember I was studying the effectiveness of Brand and Flow on teenagers. Consultants, Brian Fuller and Michele Carter, came in to Rock Canyon to teach the program to both of Ms. Marcilliat's health classes. After they taught, the students were left with three phrases on the board (I am grateful for, I will focus on, I will let go of) to ponder throughout the month. This was simply a small reminder of Brand and Flow that hopefully helped the students remember it with more ease. My research helped indicate the positive effect this program had on the students. Although I can't prove definitively that Brand and Flow helped the students overcome challenges more successfully, I can provide evidence that indicates the study was able to help many students, at least through the month, handle stress better.
Some changes I would've made would be having a larger time frame for the students to learn Brand and Flow. Two days wasn't enough time for the students to fully embrace the program before being sent out to apply it on their own. I would've had Fuller and Carter come in more often if Ms. Marcilliat would've allowed them to. I believe that would've made a significant difference on the progress the students could've made if they were given the chance to study the program for longer.
I also would've asked Ms. Marcilliat to not give points for participation because that did serve as an incentive for the students to talk. If this wasn't a requirement, I could've gotten more accurate results about how willing the students were to engage with the program without an incentive.
Additionally, I wouldn't have left the students with only the three phrases kept on the board. This was only a small fraction of the program and it didn't provide enough for the students to remember. It could've been difficult for the students to keep Brand and Flow in their heads with only those phrases. If I could change it, I would've left the students with the flow chart and had Ms. Marcilliat go over that with them every class. I also would've had her ask the students to write down, or at least think about their brand every class. I believe if these changes were made, the students would've found more success in applying the program throughout the month and in the future.
