At this point in time, I have completed my research. I have collected all of the data I needed in order to be satisfied with my results.
According to my pre and post surveys, my results look very promising. In my pre-survey, I focused on discovering what type of people the subjects were and how easily they already cope with challenging situations. In my post survey, I focused on studying how effective Brand and Flow was at helping students face challenges more easily. I wanted to know how they felt about approaching challenges now that they had time to absorb and apply the program in their everyday lives.
For one question of my pre survey, I ask a true or false question that identifies if students have trouble identifying what is causing them stress in certain situations. For second period, out of 23 students, 14 (61%) said true and 9 (39%) said false. For fourth period, out of 27 present with 25 responses, 13 (52%) said true and 12 (48%) said false.
In the post survey, I asked a similar true or false question that identifies if the student has trouble identifying what is causing them stress in certain situations. For second period, out of 30 present with 29 responses, only 8 (28%) said true, while 21 (72%) said false. For fourth period, out of 25 present with 21 responses, 6 (26%) said true and 17 (74%) said false.
Another significant question I asked in my pre survey was true or false and focused on if the students handle stress in a positive way. For second period, with 23 present and 22 responses, 9 (40.9%) said true and 13 (59%) said false. For fourth period, with 25 present and 24 responses, 11 (45.8%) said true and 13 (54.2%) said false.
In the post survey, I asked a similar true of false question that asked if the students have a good coping method to handle stress. For second period, with 30 present and 29 responses, 18 (66.7%) said true and 9 (33.3%) said false. For fourth period, with 25 present and 23 responses, 11 (55%) said true and 9 (45%) said false.
These results are very different than they were for the pre survey. It shows that more students have gained the ability to handle stress better and in a more positive way, which indicates that Brand and Flow got through to many students.
These questions were the most significant in showing the progress made from the pre to post survey in each class. I also had specific questions in the post survey asking how effective the students believed Brand and Flow was. Out of both classes, the majority (11) said the program was a 6 out of 10. It was fairly equally distributed from there. There were many students that gave the program a 5 or less, but there were some that gave it higher than a 6.
When asked how often the students thought about and/or applied Brand and Flow over the past month, the majority of both classes (36.5%) said rarely. The next largest group was (28%), who answered a few times a week. Only 5.8% said they applied it everyday. This showed me that the majority of the class didn't apply Brand and Flow as much as I had hoped, but very few never thought about it at all. It clearly made some small impact on the students.
More importantly, when asked if the students believed they would continue to use Brand and Flow in the future, 37 students (72.5%) said maybe, 11 (21.6%) said absolutely, and only 3 (5.9%) said definitely not. This proves to me that the students are at least thinking about applying Brand and Flow in the future. There were very few students that said they would never use Brand and Flow again. I was hoping more students would say they would definitely use the program, but I am no disappointed that most students say they might. If Brand and Flow can help occasionally, I will feel as if I have succeeded.
In regards to whether or not my hypothesis was correct, overall I was fairly accurate. Most of the students made progress in handling challenging situations more confidently. Most of the students enjoyed the lectures. The majority enjoyed the lessons themselves, as well as the group work and surveys. Most students who claim that their attitudes have changed regarding taking on challenges say that Brand and Flow was a factor, but not the only one. My goal was to help as many students as I could with facing their challenges with a more positive attitude and a more effective processing method. I believe I have done that with the majority of both classes.
Looking to the future of my research, I believe other schools can incorporate Brand and Flow in to their classes. Now that I know students can be positively influenced by the program, I have more confidence that this can work on a larger scale level. I already have interest from teachers at Rock Canyon wanting to go through the training themselves. I realized this can help more than just students. If teachers were able to experience this as well, they could handle their stress better with work and their personal lives. If more schools had this program, both students and teachers would be
