Context
For my research project, I am looking and seeing if larger nations receive less harsh consequences from the Olympic Committee for using PEDs than smaller nations. My hypothesis claims that athletes from larger nations will receive a less harsh consequence from the Olympic Committee due to their social and economical power and also status.
Gap
I plan to contribute to this topic by seeing if there is a correlation between larger nations' consequences and smaller nations' consequences from the Olympic committee. This is an important matter because some smaller nations severely punish their athletes due to them being caught using PEDs and this also may prove that there is always a bias no matter how large the stage is and how talented the athletes are.
Process
My process has consisted of looking for six things when searching for athletes that have been caught by the Olympic Committee for using PEDs. These six things consist of the athlete's name, the country they're from, the steroid they used, the year they were caught, the steroid they used, and finally how long their consequence was from the Olympic Committee. Throughout my research process, I've done this for every athlete from every country that has been caught using PEDs in order to make sure there is no bias in my statistical finding later in my paper. I've compiled all of my findings into one document and plan to use the information to code.
(Picture above shows how I have been organizing my research)
Progress
Currently in the progress stage, I am just finishing my data collection and switching over to data analysis soon. After I do finish my data collection and analysis I will compare my results to truly see if athletes from larger nations will receive a less harsh consequence from the Olympic Committee when compared to smaller nations. Overall I believe that I am progressing well through the research stage and plan to continue to finish and analyze my research.
Overall my research process has gone very very smoothly but there has been one main struggle throughout the process. This struggle was how time-consuming the research process truly was and trying to keep motivated and not get distracted when conducting my research
Throughout this process, I have changed little to nothing about my project the only thing I have changed is how I formatted my dad collection because I originally thought of putting everything into one spreadsheet but I believe it is more beneficial to have it the way I have it now which is all the countries separated in one document.
