Video - Our video contains information concerning the experiment and demonstration to watch while following along.
Introduction:
The goal of this experiment is to determine the effect of warming up using a jump rope and push ups on free throw shooting percentage.
Supplies:
Basketball
Basketball hoop
Jump rope
Procedure:
Shoot 10 free throws without any warm- up. Record the number of makes.
Warm up by doing two minutes of jump rope and 10 pushups
Shoot 10 free throws after the warm-up, and record the number of makes.
Compare results prior to the warm-up to after the warm-up.
But wait, safety first! - make sure to tie your shoe laces and wear athletic clothes!
Explanation -
From our results, we found that when an individual warms-up before shooting free throws, they will perform better than if they shot free throws with no warm-up beforehand. This is because when someone warms up, blood flow increases, which increases muscle and body temperature as well. When blood flow and muscle & body temperature are increased, it leads to a relaxation of the muscles and allows for faster muscle movements, both of which have a positive impact on a person's performance.
Conclusion:
In the end, it turns out we were right! If you warm up before shooting free throws, you will make more.
