Volume: Triangular Prism

Volume of a Triangular Prism

Finding the volume of a triangular prism is almost the same as finding the volume of a rectangular prism.

The difference is that now the base is a triangle and you'll remember the formula for finding the area of a triangle is:

A =1/2 x base x height

A = 1/2bh

For a triangular prism first find the area of the base, then multiply it by the length.

The area of the base will be:

A = 1/2bh =1/2 x4x6 = 12cm2

To find the volume multiply the area of the base times the length.

V = base area x length

V = 12 x 12 = 144cm3

So the formula for finding the volume of a triangular prism is:

Volume = Area of base x length = (1/2 x b x h x l)
