Advance organisers are a type of graphic organiser that you use to connect prior learning to new learning (KWL charts are the most common). They can also be a range of graphical organisers to help students structure their information as it comes in. This helps students organise and learn as they progress through a topic because it assist them thinking logically about the big picture of a topic.
Where do I start?
Use a KWL chart the next time you start a topic
Use a graphic organiser such as a venn diagram to get students to thinking about something they know and compare and contrast it with something new.
