Dillon Griggs, Head Coach

Coach Dillon Griggs is a 2007 graduate of Enterprise High School. He attended Troy University where he graduated in 2013 with a Bachelors in Social Science Education and in 2015 with a Masters in Athletic Administration. Coach Griggs started his coaching career as an offensive student assistant at Troy University, where he was a part of the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Championship and a New Orleans Bowl win. During his tenure, Troy had a top 25 nationally ranked offense twice. As he moved into his professional career, Coach Griggs spent the last eight years as a high school teacher and football coach that has included stops at Prattville, Central-Phenix City, and Pinson Valley High School. In eight years, Coach Griggs has been a part of four region championships, five semi-final appearances, a 7A state championship runner-up, and been a part of two state championships. 

Coach Griggs is married to Morgan Watkins Griggs from Prattville, Alabama, and has one stepson, Logan Plyler, who is eleven.

Justin Albert, Assistant Head Coach and Co-Offensive Coordinator

Since Coach Albert was six years old, football has been a stepping stone for his career. Growing up in a football rich town like Prattville, Alabama, made him fall in love with the game at an early age.  He is a graduate from Prattville High School, and was the Running Back for the State Championship repeat from 2006-2007. Coach Albert was also the finalist for Mr. Football in 2007, behind the Atlanta Falcons great Wide Receiver Julio Jones. After high school, Coach Albert continued his football career at Troy University, where he was part of the fifth SunBelt Championship under Legendary Coach Larry Blakeney and earned a Bachelors of Social Science. Coach Albert started coaching for his mentor, Coach Jamey Dubose, at Central Phenix City in 2014. He was with the program for six years from 2014-2019 helping his team win the State Championship in 2018. Coach Albert left in 2020 to become the Pass Game Coordinator/ WR Coach, to help yet another school to win another State Championship at Pinson Valley High School. 

Coach Albert is married to his high school sweetheart, Jessica Albert, and has two kids, Jayla (7) and Jaxon(6 months). He is excited to join the Russell County family and ready to help elevate the opportunities for all students.

Matthew Brazell, Offensive Coordinator

Coach Brazell was born and raised in Orlando, FL, where he graduated from Boone High School and accepted an opportunity to attend and play football at Huntingdon College. At Huntingdon College, Coach Brazell majored in History, seeking a Teacher’s Certification, while he was a member of the Huntingdon College Football Team from 2010-2013. During his time at Huntingdon, the offense was ranked in the Top 10 in Division III and nationally, twice. As he began his professional career, he has worked at Prattville High School, Paul W. Bryant High School, Central-Phenix City High School, Jackson High School and Pinson Valley High School. Coach Brazell has been a part of 2 AHSAA Super 7 Championships (2018 7A & 2020 6A) and 1 AHSAA Super 7 Championships Runner Up (2014). Coach Brazell has served as the Offensive Line Coach and Strength & Conditioning Coordinator at all of his stops except for Central-Phenix City High School. 


Coach Brazell married Marleigh Brazell in May 2020, from Gulf Shores, Alabama. Marleigh is an elementary school teacher and has a huge heart for taking care of the players that Coach Brazell has coached. Coach Brazell and his wife have two dogs, Rhea, a Labrador Retriever, and Delilah, a Border Collie. Coach Brazell and his wife are ecstatic to join the Russell County family and can’t wait to get integrated into this great community.

Brandon Thomas, Tight Ends and Fullbacks

Coach Thomas was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended college at The University of Tulsa and Arkansas Tech where he majored in Communications from 2007-2012 . During his stint at the University of Tulsa, he earned two conference championships, three bowl game wins and held the #1 ranked offense in NCAA for two years.  After college, he went on to play in the CFL for the Hamilton Tiger Cats in 2012 and then played six years for the Columbus Lions earning two professional championships back to back in 2015-2016. He is now entering his fourth year coaching for the Lions.  

Coach Thomas teaches Health here at Russell County High School and has been in education for seven years. His passion is to help mold young men into successful men in society.

Mike Williams, Inside Linebackers

Coach Williams currently teaches history at RCHS. He received his Bachelor's degree in Social Science from Troy University. Coach Williams has been in education for 13 years with stops at RCJHS, Beauregard High School, and Smiths Station High School where he won a track and field championship.


Coach Williams has three children and one granddaughter. He has truly enjoyed his time at RCHS and is excited about the future success. 

Sam Moates, Safeties

Coach Moates currently lives in Opelika, AL  with his wife Brook and children Carlie (14) and Luke (11). He graduated from Enterprise High School in May of 1996.  He then attended Enterprise State Community College and later graduated with a degree in Human Physical Performance Education from the University of Alabama in May of 2001.  Coach Moates began his teaching and coaching career in the Russell County School District in August of 2001 and is now beginning his 20th year working in the Russell County School System.  

Frank Saunders, Outside Linebackers

Coach Saunders is a graduate of Pacelli High School and Columbus State University. He played  football at Georgia Southwestern College. He coached in Georgia before coming to Alabama. Under his direction, Macon County High School in Montezuma, Georgia won a state championship in 2016. Saunders coaches on the defensive side of the ball for the Warriors. He works with the outside linebackers.

Julius Dixon, Cornerbacks

Coach Dixon was born and raised in Toccoa, Georgia. He attended college at Furman University where he majored in Political Science. During his stint at Furman University, he competed in two I-AA football National Championships. During his senior year, he was elected as one of the team captains on the National Championship team.  

After college, he went on to teach and coach in high school. After four years, he returned to his alma mater to coach football. Prior to joining the staff at RCHS, Dixon served as head football coach at Point University. This season marks the 33rd year of coaching for Dixon.

Coach Dixon teaches history here at Russell County High School and has been in education for over 30 years. His passion is to assist young student athletes with becoming successful in life.
