Miller Middle School School Counselors facilitate small group counseling sessions based on the needs of current students. As a needs based intervention the groups offered may vary from year to year depending on student and school need. Below are examples of some common groups that may be offered.
This group will focus on developing different skills each week. The focus will change from year to year but some topics may be self-esteem, coping skills, emotional regulation, and maintaining healthy friendships.
Participants will strengthen a variety of characteristics. Possible weekly focuses may be self-esteem, 6 year plans, leadership, self advocacy, and emotional regulation.
Students grow skills to be change makers on Miller's campus. Groups focus on building empathy, self advocacy, leadership, and honoring diversity.
Participants in this group learn a variety of healthy coping skills that can be implemented into their lives at school and home.
Students experiencing changing family structures, such as divorce and separation, explore, discuss, and receive support.
This group focuses on making new friends, getting along with others, and reacting positively in a variety of social situations.
A safe space to come to talk about your feelings, learn some new coping skills, and feel a connection to others going through the grief process.
