Culinary Arts:

Students in this pathway learn first hand the applicable skills, techniques, and business behind the culinary arts. Students will perfect necessary culinary techniques and will get real world experience in cooking, serving, and running various catering events, giving them first hand experience in the culinary field.

Elementary and Secondary Education:

This pathway leads students through coursework and activities resulting in experiences in elementary and middle schools, transferable post-secondary credit and the opportunity to continue the Pathway at Gateway Technical College.

Health Services:
Students in the pathway will be exposed to numerous careers and post-secondary options relating to occupations in the health service sector. Students will learn fundamental terminology and skills necessary to pursue further education and occupations in the Pathway.

About the Academies of Racine

The Academies of Racine offers a unique high school experience for all Racine Unified high school students. As Freshmen, students are able to explore their own academic and career interests in their Freshmen Seminar class, and are then able to choose a Career Pathway then end of their Freshman year that they will then be able to study more closely throughout their next 3 years in high school. Each Pathway will prepare students for specific career fields by connecting their regular high school classes and curriculum to college and career opportunities, as well as, be able to earn college credits, nationally-recognized industry certifications, job placements, and more.

RUSD has partnered with many local businesses and universities to connect students directly to possible future career and academic opportunities. Some examples of community opportunities to connect and engage with students are:

  • SEE Your Future Expo: Organizations showcase their various careers offered within their field to freshman students as they begin the process of selecting a career pathway to study throughout high school.

  • Guest Speakers: Visit classrooms and speak with students about their area of expertise as it relates to their pathway-specific course curriculum.

  • Coordinated Site Visits: Organizations and businesses demonstrate the working environment in their industry and varying types of careers available by hosting students at their place of work.

  • Job Shadow: Provides experiences for students to develop knowledge and skill in a work setting that is aligned with the lessons in the classroom that is an application of academic, technical, and employability skills.

  • Academies of Racine Advisory Council: Meets with the other AoR Career Academy Partners to provide guidance regarding Academy-specific programming and curriculum.

  • Workplace Learning Placements: Organizations are able to host Junior and Senior students for 450/900 hours of paid employment at their organization in a field related to their Pathway as part of the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Youth Apprenticeship Program or the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Co-Op Program.

  • Pathway and Project-Based Learning Mentors: Mentors aid students throughout several possible stages of a project-based learning opportunity, or Pathway curriculum and share skills and knowledge with Pathway students to prepare them for career related functions and competitions.
