Child Care

2023–2024 School Year

Before- AND after-school program

Rundle Child Care provides safe and engaging program options for children from kindergarten to grade 6 before and after school.

Our research-driven morning program allows your child moments of connection, academic enrichment, and play. After the school day, students are provided opportunities to digest the happenings of their day and re-charge their batteries. As they engage in both structured and unstructured play, they nourish their social relationships and learn problem-solving skills while indulging their creativity and imagination.

NOTE: Child Care is FULL for the 2024–25 school year. To add your name to the waitlist, please email childcare@rundle.ab.ca

facilities/play/snacks

Facilities

This year in Child Care, groups will have designated space in the Collett School with a leader during both the morning and afternoon sessions.

We provide engaging games and activities, outdoor play, academic support, and opportunities for physical movement within the program. We are focused on ensuring our kids continue to feel a sense of belonging, friendship, and fun!

Outdoor Play

Child Care students will be given many opportunities to participate in outdoor play this year. Please ensure that your child comes to school with the necessary clothing and footwear to allow them to comfortably play outside. Our areas of play include the tarmac, the playground, the grass areas, the outdoor classroom, and the field.

Afternoon Snacks

Each afternoon, students will be provided with a healthy snack. Examples of items on our snack menu are cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, and muffins. Please ensure your child has a water bottle that they may fill at our touch-less water stations.

If you are concerned about any food interactions for your child related to allergies (not preference) with any of these food items, please contact us at childcare@rundle.ab.ca and we will arrange an alternate snack selection.

wellness

Rundle Child Care places a high value on the personal wellness of children and provides opportunities to ensure each child feels cared for and supported as they begin and end their day at school. Our Child Care professionals are committed to providing opportunities for children to build friendships with other students in their group, and with the adults leading them. We are excited that we have joined the Collett School to use the Bloomz app as we are providing regular updates and photos for parents each week.

Child Care Q&A with Lynsey Frank — Current Parent

What do your kids enjoy the most about Child Care?

The boys love spending time at Child Care. At first I felt nervous about feeling like they were going to have a really long day. You know the mom guilt we are all so quick to place on ourselves. However, they both enjoyed aftercare so much that they would get upset with me if I tried to pick them up early! Ever loves the opportunity to spend more time with his friends and also really enjoys the variety of outdoor play and crafts that were always so thoughtfully planned. Arlo really enjoys all of the tactile activities. Most days he would spend time building a Lego tower and proudly show it to me at pickup.

As a parent, what do you appreciate about Child Care offered at Rundle?

I have always really appreciated the warm and kind nature of the caregivers. It really gives me peace of mind knowing that the boys are being cared for by individuals that demonstrate such a high level of care. From a logistics standpoint, I appreciate how seamless the transition is from their school day to the Child Care program. If Ever or Arlo had an after school activity, such as volleyball, they would attend that and then join Child Care. It is the perfect way to incorporate sports and care for my kids while my husband and I are finishing up our work day.

What has your experience been like with the Child Care staff?

The Child Care staff are wonderful to work with. The boys really made a nice connection with them. Any feedback I had given was always well received and they provided positive feedback about the boys. I also appreciated the security of the process if someone out of the ordinary was picking up my children. They run a tight ship! Which again gave me peace of mind.

Is there anything about Child Care at Rundle that you think a new parent would appreciate knowing?

As a new parent I would appreciate knowing that the Child Care program is really an extension of values that Rundle as a whole exemplifies; which is in my mind the best option for a parent who is in need of an extension of the school hours to make life work. I always had a contentment knowing that Ever and Arlo were being looked after by people who truly care about their wellbeing.
