Curiosity Lab (c.Lab)

2023–2024 School Year

Welcome to the c.lab

At Rundle, we believe that a well-rounded educational experience enables our students to grow and flourish. We also recognize that great learning can take place outside of school hours. To support the vision of helping students to find their passions and engage in a well-rounded pursuit of education, The Curiosity Lab at Rundle (The c.Lab) offers a unique blend of curiosity, sport, and music sessions.

Rundle's innovative Curiosity Sessions are designed to increase capacity and ignite passions through a variety of programs in a holistic way that encourages wellness, mindfulness, global citizenship, and character.

The Jr. Cobras Sport Program is designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship, and a love of sport. Rundle College’s grassroots initiative has been developed to empower our Rundle College Community to positively influence our youth through sport and build an exceptional athletic program at Rundle College.

Our Music Sessions are offered by qualified instructors who strive to provide a personalized and well-rounded music experience. We believe that music has the capacity to enrich our lives and provide a wonderful creative outlet for our students.

Each fall, winter, and spring we offer a range of options for our grade 1–6 students after school.

c.Lab Team

Heather Mayer | Director of Elevated Opportunities

As the Director of Elevated Opportunities, I am a passionate advocate for our after-school programs including the c.Lab. I have taught for 20 years and including four years at Rundle and this last year leading our out-of-school programming. Prior to Rundle, I taught K–6 and led various academic programs for schools and day camps.

Working with the c.Lab staff to ensure the children who attend the c.Lab feel safe and have a place to grow their kindness, curiosity, and wellness each day is an important foundation to our elevated program and I look forward to continuing this work in 2023–2024.

Jillian Robinson | c.Lab Jr. Cobras Coordinator

The Rundle College Junior Cobras program is part of our grassroots initiative that has been developed to empower our elementary students, high school students, and alumni through sport. I have been part of Rundle Junior Cobras since its induction in 2014 coaching basketball, volleyball, badminton, and rugby.

I am excited to take on the coordinator role and am looking forward to providing and organizing fun and engaging inclusive sport clinics for our grade 1-6 students. In addition to coaching, I have been a physical education teacher for over 20 years teaching students from kindergarten to grade 12 in Canada and England. Developing fundamental sport skills, sportsmanship and physical literacy in our youth is something that I feel very passionate about. I look forward to another great year with our young athletes.

Heather Thirsk | c.Lab Music Instructor

I’ve been involved in performing music since the age of four. Playing the piano and singing are two of my passions that won’t go away. My experience with a live stage performance career has spanned several decades and is part of who I am. I recorded a live album in 2006 and recently returned to my love of recording music. I have been a music director at various churches in Ontario and Alberta over the past twenty-four years, and I have influenced people of all generations.

I enjoy teaching and experiencing music together with the students in a contagious way to help them reach their dreams.
