Episode 4

Clemens Mayer:

Assistant Professor, Faculty of Science & Engineering

Clemens Mayer is Assistant Professor for Biomolecular Chemistry and Catalysis in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Clemens and his group at the Mayer Lab study chemical innovations and how to incorporate them into cell chemistry.

In this episode we discuss the small experiments that Clemens made in large group teaching, harnessing the power of creativity to find a new (and in some aspects, better) way of sharing content and interacting with students.

The screen sharing software Clemens uses is a free, open source tool called OBS and can be downloaded from: https://obsproject.com/

Clemens has written a guide for using the screensharing software that he has kindly made available for RUG instructors.

The tool for creating 3D molecules that Clemens mentioned in the podcast episode is Chem3D from the ChemDraw suite. This is a licensed product, but is available to FSE teachers via the university software suite.

Clemens shared a great Twitter thread about his top takeaways from his online teaching experiences.
