OVERVIEW:
This year-long course provides students with many practical experiences through the classroom, shop activities, laboratory experiments and demonstrations. Students will cover the importance of and the history of agriculture, the FFA, communications, parliamentary procedure, dairy science, agribusiness principles, agriscience, basic livestock information and evaluation, and natural resources. Students will experience hands-on activities in the shop during a carpentry unit.

OVERVIEW:
Students in this yearlong class study agriculture mechanics. This course provides hands-on experience in surveying, electricity, small engines, carpentry and welding. Shop facilities will be used to perfect skills that relate to the areas above. Students may choose to compare their skills to other students by competing in various skill development competitions.

OVERVIEW:
BSAA is a one-year course that teaches biological sciences as they apply to agriculture. Students enrolled in this course will receive science credit upon completion of the required course work. It is strongly recommended that a student have Biology as a prerequisite to this course. Moreover, students will experience scientific facts and relationships through laboratory experiments that are perceived, designed, set-up and analyzed by the student. This is a very student centered course that implements hands-on and problem solving activities. The first semester will deal with plant sciences and the second semester will cover animal sciences. This course will be offered as a dual credit course with Kishwaukee College.

OVERVIEW:
This yearlong course is designed to allow students to explore the world of agriculture business. Students will cover a wide variety of topics related to agriculture and consumer sciences. Units of study include Introduction to Agribusiness, Entrepreneurship, Financial Documents, Budgeting, Record Keeping, Marketing, Advertising and Promotion, Careers, Risk Management, and International Agribusiness. Students will better understand how the agribusiness sector serves to meet the needs of society through the support of production agriculture. The class will utilize guest speakers in a number of agribusiness areas. This course is offered as a dual credit option through Kishwaukee College.

OVERVIEW:
A Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP) is open to any agriculture student and is worth ½ credit towards graduation for each year that a student is enrolled in the program. Student projects are coordinated among the student, teacher, employer and parent. Students have a chance to earn money, earn high school credit and compete with their SAEP’s for recognition and awards. Students and teachers set-up an electronic record book in which the student documents specific details about SAEP experiences. The SAEP recordkeeping experience teaches students such items as planning and setting goals, budgeting, organizing and recording experiences, along with recording income and expenses and developing a student net worth. Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs are divided into SAEP I for freshmen and
sophomore students and SAEP II for junior and senior students.

OVERVIEW:
This course deals with the major aspects of horticulture, such as basic plant science, greenhouse management, landscape, and turf management. Other topics include vegetable gardening, small fruit gardening, identifying pests, growing and managing horticultural crops, plant identification, plant propagation and reproduction. In-class projects such as flower arranging and terrariums are included, as well as out-of-class projects such as plant parenthood and the creation of a children’s book. A major portion of this class involves hands-on laboratory and greenhouse experiences.

OVERVIEW:
Greenhouse Management/Floral Design is a comprehensive course that takes the student beyond basic horticultural knowledge and focuses on the floriculture industry. The student performs projects in both areas: greenhouse management and floral design. The first semester features greenhouse management, which includes aspects of greenhouse design, building, growing plants, and maintaining and marketing. The second semester features floral design applications including, the history of design, care of flowers, design elements, creating designs, operating a floral shop, and weddings. Several projects and field trips can be expected.

OVERVIEW:
The landscape industry is a fast growing industry and with the right training one can make quite a bit of money within this industry. Landscape and turf management covers basic landscape principles that allow students to form a solid foundation for a future in landscaping and turfgrass management. Topics covered include: techniques to create hand-drawn and CAD landscape plans; identification of tools and products used in the industry; identification of plants used in landscaping and turf management; and landscape and lawn maintenance. Classroom information is applied in practical settings through class projects and fieldtrips.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
IT Fundamentals is the starting point for a career in IT support. Completing this course will help you acquire the knowledge and skills to set up and use a computer at home securely and keep it in good working order and to provide informal support for PCs and simple computer networks to your colleagues in a small business. There are no prerequisites for this course. This course will serve as a foundation for other computer courses in the RTHS Technology Department.

This class will introduce students to common computer-based communication technologies that are used throughout business and industry such as Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator. Students will also design and build 2D & 3D video game software using UnReal Engine and Blender 3-D. Students will learn the principles of modeling in application interfaces, modeling 3-D objects, lighting, surface materials, animating 3-D models, and rendering.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class is designed to provide a real-life scenario of a business environment. The student will have a chance to focus on a potential career option in computer graphics, advertising, digital photography, and/or sign making. Project management skills will be addressed. Students will create the Tatler yearbook in this course. Skills acquired include graphic design, photography, and/or writing.
PLEASE NOTE: Students will have multiple computer design projects to work simultaneously with strict deadlines. There will be outside assignments which will require students to attend various school functions.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class is designed for upper-level students interested in gaining practical experience in the field of Information Technology (IT) support. Students will learn the essential skills needed to operate an effective IT help desk, serving as the first point of contact for technology-related issues within RTHS. Working in conjunction with the IT Department, students will provide hands-on technical support, develop customer service skills, learn ticket management software, and develop basic security skills. Upon completion of this course students will be equipped with foundational skills for entry-level IT support roles that will enhance their resume for college applications or immediate employment opportunities.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will use board drafting, and computer assisted drafting (CAD) computer software to study two and three-dimensional drafting standards. Topics covered will include sketching, board drafting, geometric constructions, drawing layout, multiview drawings, working drawings, dimensioning, sectional views, and auxiliary views. 2-D CAD and 3-D solid modeling will be taught. Assignments will include design projects in which students use the technology lab to build products and structures such as a motorized car and cardboard buildings. Student enrolled in this class will be eligible to participate in the annual regional and state high school drafting competitions.

Business Technologies introduces students to business management. Mathematics, reading, and writing components are woven in the context of everyday business practices. Throughout the course are practical and engaging activities, projects, and problems to develop and improve business and employability skills. Additionally, students investigate and develop viable business plans in order to solve local problems.

OVERVIEW: Consumer Education meets the state requirements for instruction in installment purchasing, comparison of unit costs, the use of credit, budgeting and money management, and the study of insurance. The primary purpose of the course is to help students understand the necessity of making wise decisions related to their buying practices and to know the role of the consumer and his behavior in the context of how those decisions affect and are affected by the total economy. Basic and elementary economic principles are sprinkled throughout the course as units are studied, including; the consumer in the marketplace; money management; the use and costs of consumer credit; buying goods and services; comparing costs related to the purchase of housing, food, transportation, health services, drugs and cosmetics, recreation, furnishing, and appliances; the purpose and need for various kinds of insurance, savings, investments, taxes, and the consumer in society. We will also discuss the process of getting a job: the construction of a resume, how to fill out an application, and how to physically and mentally prepare for an interview.

OVERVIEW: Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing course provides students with knowledge and skills. Topics include safety, machine automation, measurement, AC/DC electricity, electrical relay control, fluid power, robotics, CAD (computer aided design), print reading, CNC programming (computer numerical control), and employability skills. These concepts will be taught using virtual trainers, and then applied using state of the art equipment in the shop. Students will also learn about current industry credentials and requirements for employment locally.

OVERVIEW: In this course, students will learn new skills that build on the technologies covered in IIntroduction to Advanced Manufacturing, and combine these technologies into systems. New technology topics will use interactive multimedia computer course materials with simulations and hands-on work with real automation equipment. Students will also work on team projects to design and build working prototype machines that incorporate the various technologies. New topics include: Programmable Electronic Controllers (PLCs), Flexible Manufacturing/ Robotic Systems, Automation Cells, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Systems, Machining, Concepts of Quality, CAD 2, Print Reading 2, Electrical Controls 2, and Safety 2. Students will also learn about current industry credentials and requirements for employment locally.

OVERVIEW: Home & Workplace Maintenance course provide students with knowledge and skills related to devices and systems found in the home and workplaces. Students will be involved in a wide range of hands-on learning activities that includes electrical wiring, plumbing, window and door repair and installation, wall and floor repair and finishing, furniture repair and finishing, small appliance repair, troubleshooting, and problem solving. Students will explore the National Electric Code (NEC), and OSHA standards. The curriculum covers a range of important topics, such as the implementation of Lock-out Tag-out policies. Students will also learn about current industry credentials and requirements for employment locally.

OVERVIEW: A study of social, historical, and philosophical foundations that give perspective to current issues, policies, and ongoing changes in the field of education, including cultural diversity. Educational organization and structure, finance, and curriculum are discussed. Includes a minimum of 15 field observation hours.
