OVERVIEW:
2D Level 1 introduces the students to the elements and principles of art by learning techniques and media. Hands-on experiences develop basic drawing, painting, and printmaking, skills that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving solutions. Students will begin to develop their own artistic voice and confidence through creating artwork, critiquing their own art as well as that of other artists, and completing a weekly visual journal. A supply kit will need to be purchased in the office for this class (approximately $14).

OVERVIEW:
2D Studio Art uses the elements and principles of art while focusing on media and process. Students will refine their technical skills in drawing, painting, and printmaking using a variety of media such as pencil, watercolor, color pencil, acrylic, printmaking, ink/marker, and pastel. While using each specific medium, students will be able to develop their own content that reflects a strong sense of composition. Students will continue to explore their artistic voice through creating artwork, critiquing their own art as well as other artists, and completing a weekly visual journal. A supply kit in the office will need to be purchased for $30.

3D Art uses the elements and principles of art while focusing on media and process. Students will refine their technical skills while using different 3D media such as wire, plaster, clay and paper. While using each specific medium, students will be able to develop their own content that reflects a strong sense of composition. Students will explore their artistic voice through creating artwork, critiquing their own art as well as other artists, and using a weekly visual journal. 3D Level 2 focuses on the continuing media skills and process learned in Level 1, but in more complex and imaginative ways. Students will have choice when selecting their media and content that reflects a strong sense of composition. Photography I provides the beginner with the information to understand basic photography techniques that apply to digital and manual SLR cameras and darkroom. Photography is a form of artistic expression; therefore, students will use the elements and principles of art as the basis for their assignments. Students will also continue to explore their artistic voice through creating artwork, critiquing their own art as well as other artists, and keeping a weekly visual journal. work is black and white. Using the fundamental elements and principles of design and technical skills learned in Photo I, Photo II will encourage the student to refine and understand the techniques of the medium and explore alternative processes that will develop their own distinct style. Black and white film photography will be used as well as digital photography and the use Photoshop. By the end of the semester, students will have their own distinct artistic voice through creating artwork, critiquing their own art as well as other artists, and keeping a weekly visual journal. A supply kit in the office will need to be purchased for this class (approximately $40).

their personal style when hand building or using the potter’s wheel while emphasizing creativity and
problem solving. It also introduces more contemporary and sculptural techniques with clay, and using

In Advanced Studio Art students will be given the freedom to choose their media and refine their technical skills while exploring the use of principles of art to develop their own distinct style. By the end of the semester, students will have their own distinct artistic voice through creating artwork, critiquing their own art as well as other artists, keeping a weekly visual journal, and be ready for AP Studio Art. A supply kit in the office will need to be purchased for this class (approximately $25 each semester).

OVERVIEW:
AP Studio Art is designed to give students the freedom to explore media and personal themes while perfecting technical skills. Students can choose to focus on Drawing, 2D Design, or 3D Design. They will choose a personal theme from which they will create a series of works that all have a common thread. A visual journal will be kept with ideation, preparation and notes in it. Students enrolled in the AP Studio Art class have the opportunity to receive college credit while still in high school. To do so, they must submit a portfolio to the College Board in May. This course will help those students wanting to pursue a career in the arts after high school, build a portfolio for college entrance, and/or submit a portfolio for scholarship. A supply kit in the office will need to be purchased for this class (approximately $30).
