Ceramics 1

1)Of which in-class project (Pinch Pots, Coil Pot, Slab Project) are you the most proud? Why? Please explain and be specific. What did you learn from doing this project?

  • my favorite in class project we worked on in this class would probably be the multiple pinch pots project. This was the first main sculpture we made in the class, and i would consider it the most fun. I am most proud of my totem pole sculpture because i find it to be creative and functional. I enjoyed this assignment because of how open and free the guidelines were.

2) How has taking this class changed the way you think about ceramics? This could include your own art-making, how you appreciate art, and/or how you might look differently at art in the world around you.

  • Before taking this class, i had never really done much sculpting with clay. I had never learned how people made bowls, vases and plates. I found that not every plate or cup needs to be neat and clean. When i was doing my artist research and historic pot project’s, i found that ever piese was unique and different. Throughout my experience in this class, i have watched myself get better at the art of ceramics. I believe this class has helped me look at the world at a more curious and imaginative way.

3) What recommendations would you make for ways that the class could be improved (please don’t worry about hurting my feelings- artists learn from, and expect, constructive criticism.

  • Overall i did not experience anything uncomfortable within this class. I think the timing and amount of assignments we had assigned was appropriate. For the most part it was a self trial and error experience for me. Learning how to glaze properly was new for me. I did not undergo any major accidents or setbacks, so i think i understood the ground rules. I don't really see any flaws in this class.
