5th Grade

Students in 5th grade sing, play instruments, move, compose, and listen to different styles of music.

Like 3rd and 4th grade general music, singing, listening, and moving to music are cornerstone activities in the general music curriculum at MLS.

Music engages empathy and social emotional awareness that forms the feelingful foundation of being human. MLS musicians have opportunities to develop all of their musical capacities. Besides continuing to learn how to read and write more challenging music, students also spend time playing and composing Orff pieces. They also experience ukulele, boomwhackers, bucket drumming, and other instruments. Social dances and musical movement round out the 5th grade curriculum.

Fifth Graders have the option to join Band and Chorus.
