ELO Spotlight!
Olivia Woods was part of a Maine Department of Education presentation on April 30th at the Hall of Flags Ceremony in Augusta at the State Capital, highlighting student centered learning and college/career connected learning.
During the past year and a half, Olivia has completed a draft of her novel (@100,000 words!), developed/applied an evidence/research based revision process - and is about to finish draft two. Her plan beyond graduation is to engage with her outside experts to explore publishing options. She was also recently highlighted in the MDOE ELO Website.
Olivia's ELO Essential Question was: What skills, knowledge and training are necessary to successfully complete, revise and publish a nove ?

Registration is currently OPEN for students who want to take a dual enrollment class this summer or fall through the UMaine or Maine community college systems. If you are interested in taking an Early College course, please reference the document below for how to get started!
A group of sophomores and juniors got to tour Southern Maine Community College’s (oceanside!! ) campus and University of Southern Maine’s Gorham campus.
Students got to see academic buildings, an SMCC dorm room, athletic complexes (did you know USM has the only Olympic-sized hockey rink in the state of Maine?), and more! Students finished their busy day with a delicious lunch at the USM dining hall. We also ran into FOUR former students at both schools!
On April 30th, school counselors and students braved the rainy day and took a road trip up to UMaine Orono’s campus for their inaugural Early College Discovery Day! Students listened to panels from current UMO students and staff in student life, eat lunch in the dining hall and got to tour the following pathways: STEM, Education, Earth/Life Science, Nursing, and Liberal Arts! Students received hands-on experiences and got to meet professors in their areas of interest.
In April, school counselors set up a table during lunches to teach students about growth mindset! Students and staff spun the fun wheel and answered questions about fixed vs. growth mindset, reframing negative statements, and goal-setting to win prizes! Students also got to write an intention card to keep for themselves to help them finish the school year strong.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Our school counselors have partnered with NAMI Maine for a special Lunch Event on May 8th. Wear Green to show your support for Mental Health Awareness. Participate in activities and leave with prizes and resources during your lunch period. CTC PM students, stop by the cafe before you leave the building to participate!
