Clinical Medical Assistant
A Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) is a medical support professional that performs a variety of tasks to assist physicians in providing patient care. While CMAs working in smaller practices may be required to perform some administrative tasks, those working in larger medical facilities focus mainly on providing support services directly related to patient care. Typically, Medical Assistants prep rooms and prepare patients for examinations, while helping manage medical supply inventories. CMAs may also assist nurses and physicians providing direct patient care by taking medical histories, charting vitals, and assisting in procedures. Some even perform more advanced tasks under the supervision of a physician such as cleaning and dressing wounds, removing sutures, collecting blood and other specimens, as well as administering medication.
A Day in the Life
Dental Assistants are the smiles behind the masks; they greet and seat patients, take and record vital signs, and ready the treatment area. They keep patients comfortable during dental care, are a skilled set of hands that dentists depend on for each dental procedure, and so much more.
Dental Assistants may:
Organize, clean, and maintain equipment.
Transfer instruments and mix dental materials.
Take impressions and expose dental x-rays.
Make study models and whitening trays.
Suction, prepare anesthetics, apply fluoride.
Assist with selecting tooth shades for fillings, crowns, or dentures.
Coordinate treatment and appointments.
Medical Coding
Medical coding is a vital part of the changing healthcare landscape, and the demand for these medical information specialists is expected to grow.
In addition to collecting and classifying information from patient health records, medical coders use their skills to enhance physician reimbursement. The changes in the guidelines for Medicare and other insurances, widespread use of Electronic Health Records (EHR), and the growing population of older adults will require Medical Coding specialists in all areas of the healthcare industry. Doctor's offices, urgent care centers, hospitals, chiropractors, dentists, specialists, and insurance providers are examples of employment opportunities for Medical Coders.
Certified Medical Coders stand out in the job-seeking process and are valued for the competence that achieving certification demonstrates to prospective employers.
Medical Transcription
Medical Transcription is the process of turning dictated (audio) medical information into typed records through use of wav audio files, foot pedals, and various file transfer software programs like Dropbox and Bytescribe. Transcriptionists are responsible for receiving verbal information and typing that information into a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word or Word Perfect using the equipment provided by our program. This information must be transcribed accurately using the format specified by the provider (clinic notes, discharge summaries, and other report forms). Now that all hospitals and medical facilities are using electronic medical records, most transcriptionists now work remotely for companies all over the country.

Phlebotomy technicians, also referred to as a phlebotomist, have an essential role in the clinical laboratory process, as their main job duty is drawing patient's (or animal) blood for testing to help in the detection and diagnosis of disease, transfusions, donations, and research. They are employed in hospitals, clinics, private practices, diagnostic laboratories, and blood banks. Phlebotomy technicians properly label, store, and deliver samples to the laboratory or drop-off point. Their job duties include ensuring quality control throughout the process, making sure specimens are not contaminated. They also perform record keeping, entering patient information and blood testing results. They collect blood primarily by performing venipuncture, and for collection of minute quantities of blood; fingerstick, or for infants through a heel stick.

In addition, individuals can accomplish various jobs in the hospital environment, and some are employed by freestanding emergency centers and surgery centers.
