Enjoy watching and listening to Stelios Kerasidis, an amazing 7-year-old from Greece who has composed his own piece of music - the Isolation Waltz - inspired by this time of Covid-19. If you could interview this young composer, what three important questions would you ask him? Read this recent article to learn more about him from the English-language publication, Greek Reporter.

Here are some other activities you could do in response to Stelios's music:

1. If you have a keyboard or a piano in your house, sit at the keyboard or piano and just play! Just do improvisation which means you're making up your own music and there are no mistakes! Record a little of your composition.

2. Write a letter to this young seven-year-old composer about his talent. You might even try writing some of your words in Greek!

3. Write a poem about his piano composition.

Share with him! If you want, your family can help you share your music, letter or poem with Stelios. You can find his contact information here. απολαμβάνω! - which means enjoy! in Greek.

Heel drag
Big circle clap

Week 2 activity

April 6-April 10

Let's dance some more!

¨Let's Dance!" What is dance? It is a way of moving that uses the body as an instrument of expression and communication.

Why is dance important? Possible answers:

  • It helps you explore different ways of making shapes or learning a series/sequence of steps to music.

  • It helps you understand yourself and the world around you.

  • But better than that, IT IS FUN!!

Let's learn a new dance move: the¨Egyptian Twist" or the ¨Egyptian Turn.¨ The formal writing system used in Ancient Egypt is known as Hieroglyphics. Many Egyptian Hieroglyphics show people with their feet positioned sideways. That is why this hip hop dance move is called the ¨Egyptian Twist¨ or the ¨Egyptian Turn.¨

What you will learn in this video:

  1. Rise up on the balls of your feet BOOM

  2. Rise up and turn BAM

  3. Rise up and turn BAM

  4. To the RIGHT (count) 5-6-7-8

  5. Reset BAM

After you get the hang of it, try the moves - or make up your own! - to a different song, The Bangles' 1980's hit, ¨Walk Like an Egyptian
