Automotive Technology Program

Pathway Overview

This pathway was established in Spring 2020. It is located at the Rio Rancho Public Schools Transportation Depot (located just south of Northern Blvd.) and is accessible to qualifying 10th, 11th, & 12th grade students at Rio Rancho HS, Cleveland HS, Independence HS, and Cyber Academy HS.

This pathway begins preparing students in the exciting career Transportation and Automotive Technology. Transportation and Auto Tech is a critical industry that keeps our economy, people, and products moving.

Career Outlook

While there are many excellent opportunities in the Transportation career cluster, the greatest number of new jobs in this field will be seen with Bus and Truck Mechanics over the next decade.

Course Sequence

Classes are double blocked (each class is 2 periods) so students will receive one full credit per semester for each class.

• Semester 1: Auto 1 (A & B) - Introduction to Transportation

• Semester 2, 3, or 4: Auto 2 (A & B) - Undercar Skills

• Semester 2, 3, or 4: Auto 3 (A & B) - Electrical Systems and Engine Tune-Up

• Semester 2, 3, or 4: Auto 4 (A & B) - Topics In Automotive & Diesel Technology focusing on Emerging Technologies and Alternative Fuel Sources i.e. diesel, electric, and hybrid.
