I will be co-teaching with Mrs. Hudson, and together we are excited to provide students with an engaging, supportive, and interactive approach to reading and writing. Our goal is to help every student become a confident reader, thoughtful writer, and effective communicator while developing a lifelong love of learning.
Our instruction will incorporate a variety of learning modalities, including visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile experiences. Students will participate in whole-group lessons, partner discussions, small-group instruction, hands-on activities, close reading, vocabulary activities, writing practice, and opportunities to share and explain their thinking. We will use modeling, guided practice, repetition, and differentiated instruction to support students with a variety of learning needs.
We will be using the Wit & Wisdom English Language Arts program as our core curriculum. Students will build knowledge through the study of high-quality texts. They will learn to read closely, think critically, ask questions, make connections, discuss ideas, and support their thinking with evidence from what they have read.
Writing is an important part of our daily instruction. Students will have frequent opportunities to write about what they are learning, organize their ideas, develop and support their thinking, use appropriate vocabulary, and communicate their ideas clearly. Students will work on both the process of writing and the skills needed to become stronger writers, including planning, drafting, revising, editing, and producing a finished piece.
Throughout the school year, students will explore four exciting modules:
