Reminders to High School Students & Parents
High School students are required to enroll in six (6) courses for a full schedule of six (6) course periods.
All rising 9th-11th graders should choose two (2) alternate electives and Rising Seniors should choose three (3) alternate electives. Alternates are courses that you prefer if we are not able to schedule your first choice elective(s).
Some courses have prerequisites/corequisites. These are listed with the course descriptions. Students must meet any prerequisites/corequisites listed in order to enroll in a course. Any exception to this requires the advance written approval of the teacher of the course.
In addition to prerequisites/corequisites, some courses require teacher recommendations. If a teacher is not willing to sign to give approval, your parent must complete a Permission to Take an Advanced Course form before you can register for the course.
If you hope to play college athletics at an NCAA Division l or Division ll institution, it is important that you are aware of the NCAA’s academic requirements. They are also listed on the NCAA website which can be accessed athttps://www.ncaa.org/sports/2021/2/8/student-athletes-future.aspx
11th and 12th graders only: If you plan to take dual enrollment courses at Piedmont Community College, you must meet with the PCC Representative to complete an application, and you must also meet academic requirements.
If you would like to take an online course with the North Carolina Virtual Public School, be sure to visit the VPS website for course descriptions. Keep in mind that online courses are often more difficult than traditional classroom courses and require a great deal of self-monitoring and also move at a rapid pace.
