This toolkit is designed to equip medical students and residents with a brief overview and definition of Black Maternal Mortality, potential solutions to decrease black maternal mortality, as well as recommendations that medical students and residents can utilize while taking care of black mothers in the hospital or in primary care settings. This information is not intended to take the place of medical advice, but instead to augment the care of black women and fill any gaps in healthcare that may be present. Medical Students and Residents have a unique opportunity to spend additional time with patients and advocate for them as we train to become attending physicians. This toolkit focuses on the South Jersey and Philadelphia area, but many of the recommendations and statistics can be applicable to other regions of the country as well.
