IMPACT (Inspiring More Physicians to ACT) is an initiative created and designed by four medical students at Rowan SOM, Jamila Holston, Mavis Britwum, Nneoma Onyedimma and Emmanuel Asenso Jr. We wanted to find ways to educate ourselves and our medical school community about issues that affect our future patient populations, especially underserved minority communities. As future physicians, we must understand how a person's environment and the social issues they face, affect the way they receive, seek, and respond to our care. IMPACT week attempts to provide resources and tools to help develop and equip socially conscious physicians to better serve all of our patients. The first ever SNMA IMPACT week (January 6th - 12th, 2019) focused on gun violence and the effect it has on the physical and mental health of our communities. For more information, visit the website (https://sites.google.com/view/impact-rowansom-snma-2019/home?authuser=0). The second iteration of IMPACT week (November 16th- November 20th) will focus on Decreasing Black Maternal Mortality and what medical students and physicians can do to decrease black maternal mortality in our communities.
