Welcome to the Texas Bluebonnet Award Program! Texas Bluebonnet Award List Books are chosen each year by a special committee of the Texas Library Association (TLA) representing all ten TLA districts in the state.
Students in grades 3-6 attending participating schools may vote for their favorite after reading five of the nominees from the current year's list. Books Mrs Mensing, your or your teachers read also count. It is your responsibility to keep up with this form, & you must submit it by the end of this year’s program on January 23, 2026.
Read 5 & submit your form: You can vote for your favorite!
Read 10 & submit your form: You will be invited to the Bluebonnet Breakfast.
Read 15 & submit: earn a book!
Read 20 & submit your form: You earn a book from next year’s Bluebonnet List!

BATTLE OF THE bLUEBONNETS tEAM!
In February each year we hold tryouts for students interested in representing Sommer as our Battle of the Bluebonnets Team!
Students answer questions about the nominated books from the current year's list, and the top 4 contenders are chosen for our team.
In March we compete against all the other elementary schools in the district. The competition is virtual and happens during the school day!
