Unit 1

Will it Float?

UPDATED!!!

WQuestion: How can we make

Physical Properties

Density - 8/29

I think ________ will happen because_______.

I observe _____. I think this happened because _____.

Liquid Layers!

Physical Properties:

Liquid 1: blue, fast movement, water appearance, semi-transparent

Liquid 2: clear, has bubbles, thick, slow movement, glue-like, semi-transparent

Liquid 3: red, semi-transparent, fast movement,

Liquid 4: golden, medium speed, semi-transparent, honey-colored, oil-like,

Liquid 5: medium movement, clear,

Predictions:

I think........

I think this because......

Observations/Conclusion:

Liquid 2 is the most dense liquid. This is because corn syrup is very heavy.

Liquid 5 is the least dense. I know this because oils tend to be less dense than most liquids.

Liquid 1 is the 2nd most dense liquid.

Liquid 4 is the 3rd most dense liquid. It is heavier than liquid 1 and 5.

Liquid 3 is the 4th most dense liquid. Only liquid 2 is heavier.

Properties of Water 9/7

Testable Question: Will the mass of water change when it goes from liquid to solid?

Hypothesis: YOU

Materials: 1 sandwich baggie, some water, graduated cylinder, digital scale, access to a freezer.

Procedure:

1. Pour some water into a sandwich baggie and close the baggie tightly.

2. Mass the baggie on the digital scale and write your measurement in a table.

3. Place the baggie in a freezer overnight.

4. Mass the baggie again and record your data.

Data:

Properties of Water - Morning
Properties of Matter - Afternoon

Conclusion: I can conclude, when water in liquid form freezes, the mass stays the same.
