Any student can request to meet with the school counselor or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent.

Student: Any student who wishes to speak with the school counselor is encouraged to do so. Students can ask their teacher, approach the counselor directly, or write the counselor a note.

or call the counseling office at 512-428-7341 and feel free to leave a message on this confidential line.

*Please note-- if your referral is of an urgent matter, call the main office at 512-428-7300.

Direct Services with students

Individual Counseling services are available on a request and situation urgency. Parents and staff will complete the individual counseling request form, and student will be seen in the order of urgency and request. Please be aware that ethically school counselors can not do therapy in a school setting. That's considered outside their scope of practice. However, school counselors can do brief counseling for any social and emotional issues regarding family & school. If a student needs to be seen consistently (more than 3 or 4 times for the same issue/concern), school counselors need to refer the child for outside therapy.  In the section below, you can find outside counseling resources for on-going therapy.

Responsive Services

Small Group Counseling services are available on parent and teacher recommendation. We meet with each lunch bunch group for 4-6 weeks. Then, a new group of students will be chosen for the next rotation.

On our campus, we also have the Stoney Point High School PALS program and the RRISD mentor program. During the year, special topics small groups might be needed as a Grief group, Divorce group or Friendship group. These special topics groups usually last 6 weeks and are run by a counselor.  If your child is recommended to be part of a lunch bunch, PALS/Mentor program or a special topic group, we will send home a permission slip for you to sign.

Classroom Guidance Counseling services are available for every classroom on our campus. The school year's lesson calendar is based on RRISD Counseling department curriculum and state/national standards. Classroom teachers also develop SEL (Social Emotional Learning) in their classrooms. Our campus also uses Capturing Kids' Hearts and Restorative Practices to support students' SEL.

Indirect Services for Students
Indirect Services are provided on behalf of students as a result of the school counselor's interactions with other including referrals for additional assistance, consultation and collaboration with parents, other educators and community organizations. These include meeting with parents, phone calls with previous school's staff, consultation with student's therapist/physician/psychiatrist, STAAR testing coordination, At-Risk coding and coordination, special programs and testing.
