Unfinished Work

This year, we are really going to focus on how we can prepare our fifth graders for their transition to middle school. We have been in contact with Walsh to see what their students are expected to do in regards to unfinished work. They have informed us that students are expected to take any unfinished work home to complete, along with their regular homework.

As a grade level, we have decided to adopt this process to help the students with their transition. Walsh has also communicated that it is hard for incoming 6th graders to adjust to completing assignments in a 50 minute class period.

Our students are given adequate time during the day to finish class work. However, any classwork that students do not complete in class will be coming home that day for them to complete and turn in. The teacher will tell the students when the work is due and will work with students to write the due date at the top of the assignment.

We ask that the assignment be brought back to school on it's due date. If it is returned late, it will be a penalty of 10 points off the final grade and will be a zero in the grade book until it is returned. Students who have accommodations for extended time will still receive it.

We are hopeful that this adjustment will help bridge the gap between fifth and sixth grade. As we start this new process, it may help if you ask your child if they have any missing assignments that need to be completed.

Thank you for your continued support!
