About Ms. Heine
Welcome to 5th grade! I am looking forward to an amazing year!
My name is Lara Heine (High-Knee) and this is my 30th year as a teacher! This is my fifth year teaching in 5th grade (my 4th year at Cactus Ranch)! I returned to the Ranch in 2024, but was here in 2003 also for a year in fourth grade! I love learning all subjects, and consider myself a life-long learner of academic content and effective and efficient learning strategies that maximize the strengths and talents of all learners.
It is important to me that each child develops their leadership and communication skills, while using their unique voice! My goal is to build students that continue their love of learning and are focussed and ready for their middle school experience! I can't wait to to work within our school community to build confident communicators that pursuing their academic goals and express their unique points of view and talents!
I went to school at Texas A&M University where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. As a first year teacher, I participated in the Teacher Fellows Program at Texas State University where I earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. In my career I have had the privilege of teaching 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, as well as adult learners through academic coaching, mentoring, and staff development in content instruction and leadership development strategies.
I am an Austin native and live here with my two adorable, but sometimes naughty canines. One is a rescue Australian Cattle Dog (Heeler) mix. Halsey is 5 years old. My other puppy, Diesel, is a Basset Hound. He is in his teenage phase at about 3 years old. They give me so much joy as I watch them grow! Your child will likely learn a lot about them, as they are the topic of many "Diesel" stories.
When I am not teaching, I am reading, learning, and crafting! I am currently learning about health and wellness and working on how to do that well and consistently on a busy schedule! As a reader, I am a fan of Mythology and Historical Fiction. My favorite book series is Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and I have had the opportunity to meet the author!
If you see me around, I will probably be with my twin sister, Lyssa. She also lives near me with her three puppies!
