Oates- Meet the Teacher Welcome Letter

40 Book Challenge

This year our class has accepted the challenge to read 40 books in one school year! Extensive research demonstrates that people who are avid readers are better students. In order to help your child be more successful in school, and to create avid, life-long readers, we are encouraging your student's participation. The challenge is for each student to read 40 books from different genres by the last week of school. Class time will be devoted to independent reading, responding, and tracking their reading. The students may borrow novels from our classroom library, as well as the school library. They may use books from home, the public library, or anywhere they can get their hands on a good read! We hope that they are so into their books that they will want to continue reading outside of class. Teachers have also taken on the challenge and we welcome parents to join in as well!

Genre requirements - at least one of each genre but kids set their own goals

No limit on picture books, but 5 picture books = 1 book

Up to 249 pages = 1 book

250-499 = 2 books

500+ = 3 books

My kids: Jalen (5), Londyn (3)

We love to be outside.  Jalen started playing flag football this summer and loves it!
