THERE ARE 2 CHOICES FOR THE ELA EXTRA CREDIT FOR QUARTER 2
OPTION 1: Respond to a nonfiction book you have read independently (within your personal reading range) during the second 9 weeks of school (since October 10th) by creating a Google Slides with 9 slides.
Slide 1 - Title and author of your nonfiction book
Slide 2 - Background Knowledge: What kind of background knowledge do you have that helped you understand the text?
Slide 3 - Visualizing: Draw an illustration representing something you were visualizing as you were reading
Slide 4 - Questioning: Write at least 3 questions that came to mind as you were reading
Slide 5 - Text Structure: How is the book organized (description, sequence, cause and effect, compare/contrast, or problem/solution) and what is the text evidence to prove your answer?
Slide 6 - Summary: Write a 5-7 sentence summary of your text
Slide 7 - Connections: Make one of each of the following types of connections to your text... text to text, text to self, AND text to world
Slide 8 - Main Idea/Details: Make a sun web graphic organizer that shows the main idea and details about your book
Slide 9 - Text Features: Draw/display at least 3 text features from your book (photo/caption, chart, labeled diagram, bold words and definitions, glossary/index, headings/subheadings)
Responses should be given in a complete sentence and should be thoughtful and elaborate
Share your slideshow with your teacher when it is complete
OPTION 2: Use pages 8.2 - 9.1 in your EUREKA! Student Invention activity book that came home in Tuesday folders and create your own invention. Directions:
Fill out pages 8.2 - 9.1 in your EUREKA! Student Invention activity book
Record a video of you demonstrating your invention
Share the video with your teacher when it is complete
Turn in the activity book pages to your teacher
Create a 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication math tutorial in video form. You may insert a video on a slide in Google Slides, send a video in an email to your math teacher, create a video on WeVideo in ClassLink (add the app if it is not already on your ClassLink), or use another video creation website/app you have experience with and permission to use.
The video should be no longer than 5-7 minutes. Your lesson must include the following:
A detailed explanation of the strategy of choice (standard algorithm, area model, or partial products)
Two examples of the strategy being used
One example where the learner can pause the video to solve and then show how it was solved
One example of a problem with a mistake (show how the mistake was made and how to avoid it in the future)
A closing statement
This year, you will be exploring many fields of science such as earth science, physical science, and biology. Think of a career you would like to know more about within the science field. Find an adult who works in this field and conduct an interview using the following:
Your interview can be over the phone, through email, or in-person
Prepare 10 open-ended questions (not yes or no questions) before the interview
Record the responses by taking notes
Type a one page reflection from the interview
Include topics such as what you learned about the career, what new questions you might have, and if you want to pursue that career in the future
Use library research resources to create a single slide on one of the following topics:
Cabeza de Vaca
Robert La Salle
Francisco Coronado
Life in a Mission
Moses Austin
Stephen F. Austin
Mexico's Independence
Texas Colonization
Your slide must contain 7 facts, 1 photo, and an exaplanation of the impact the person or event had on Texas.
QUARTER 3
DUE FEBRUARY 27, 2026 AT 7:35 AM
Here are the extra credit opportunities for ELA, math, science, and social studies for the third nine weeks. These extra credit assignments must be submitted to the teacher that teaches that subject area by no later than Friday, February 27th at 7:35 am.
Click the link below and follow the directions on the slides to complete a practice ECR (Extended Constructed Response):
The link will force you to make a copy of the Google Slides
Read the article and prompt on slide 2 carefully
Use the planning document on slide 3 to make a brief bulleted plan that you can turn into complete thoughts
Type your ECR on slide 4
Read over your writing to make sure it makes sense and has answered the prompt... you need text evidence and need to explain your evidence
Revise and edit your work
Share your Google Slides with your teacher when it is complete
Create a decimal math cross sums puzzle similar to the example linked below:
Your math puzzle must have 7-10 across and 7-10 down addition and subtraction decimal problems
You must use tenths and hundredths
Include an answer key for your math puzzle
Your math puzzle can be created digitally or on paper
Conduct a science experiment to investigate a testable question and share your findings by creating a Google Slides with 9 slides.
Choose a testable question that you are interested in. Testable means it is a question that can be tested through multiple tests/trials. The multiple tests/trials will give you evidence to support the answer to your question.
Make sure that you are conducting an experiment. If you know the answer to the question, it is not an experiment. If the answer is highly predictable, it is not an experiment. If you don't know the answer but it can be looked up online or in a book, it is not an experiment. Beware of books that have titles like 101 Great Science Fair Projects or Cool Science Experiments... they are usually demonstrations of physical properties and the outcome of the demonstration is highly predictable or a guaranteed result.
Slide 1 - Experiment title
Slide 2 - Clearly state your question and hypothesis (the hypothesis should state your prediction of what you believe will happen)
Slide 3 - Give background information and definitions (back up your prediction with what you know or your prior knowledge)
Slide 4 - State the one variable you are testing to see how this one variable/change affects the outcome (only one thing/condition should be changing... everything else should stay the same) and describe how you will use an experimental control (the control does not have a change/variable involved)... it is best to conduct multiple trials (a test of the variable) because the more trials you have, the more accurate your results will be!
Slide 5 - List your procedures in clear and simple steps (number order)
Slide 6 - List all materials used for your experiment
Slide 7 - Share your results in easy to read tables, graphs, and/or charts
Slide 8 - State your conclusion... what happened and why? Was your hypothesis proven to be true or false?
Slide 9 - Include references and acknowledgements
Share your slideshow with your teacher when it is complete
