I am so excited to start the new school year! Teaching brings me great joy, and I love adding to my family every year. Once you are "my kid" you are my kid forever!
This will be my 11th year teaching full time at Cactus Ranch and my 16th year teaching in Round Rock ISD.
I am originally from Illinois, but I moved to Texas when I was only two. I consider myself a full blooded Texan! I have been married to my husband Roger for 25 years. He is a computer support specialist at IBM and has been there almost 30 years. I have two girls, Natalie (23) and Molly (21). Natalie just graduated from TXST with degrees in biochemistry and biology, and Molly is a senior at A&M majoring in engineering. We also have a sweet pup, Hazel. She is 5 years old and a bundle of energy. She gives us countless hours of love and entertainment.
In my free time I enjoy traveling, swimming, and reading. Our adventures this summer took us to Peru and Chile. Machu Picchu and Rapa Nui (Easter Island) were checked off my bucket list.
I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan and love anything HP related. I enjoy zip lining, four wheeling, and have my SCUBA certification, though I haven’t done any diving in quite awhile. I’ve even been sky diving! I DO NOT like to cook or grocery shop!

This year our class has accepted the challenge to read 40 books in one school year! Extensive research demonstrates that people who are avid readers are better students. In order to help your child be more successful in school, and to create avid, life-long readers, we are encouraging your student's participation. The challenge is for each student to read 40 books from different genres by the last week of school. Class time will be devoted to independent reading, responding, and tracking their reading. The students may borrow novels from our classroom library, as well as the school library. They may use books from home, the public library, or anywhere they can get their hands on a good read! We hope that they are so into their books that they will want to continue reading outside of class. Teachers have also taken on the challenge and we welcome parents to join in as well!
Genre requirements - at least one of each genre but kids set their own goals
No limit on picture books, but 5 picture books = 1 book
Up to 249 pages = 1 book
250-499 = 2 books
500+ = 3 books
