Board Members

Overview

RVC is the creation of local public school teachers and public school parents. It is governed by a Board of Directors made up of parents and education and business professionals. Three of the board members are representatives of RVC teachers and parents.

Board Members and Officers

Brian Meehan - Parent Member

Brian's professional background is in accounting and finance.  He has a degree in accounting and worked in the financial services industry for 20 years.  After the birth of his second daughter, he became a stay at home Dad and a part time home renovator.  Jeff recently served as the treasurer for the Riseup94965 Foundation, which fundraises for the Sausalito/Marin City school district.  He was a math tutor at my daughters' former school for two years, and has been active at RVC since his daughters joined the community in February of 2024.

Dawn Patrice Hwang - Vice-Chair - Parent Member

Dawn is a licensed esthetician and small business owner, operating a private skincare practice for the past 15 years. She is also a licensed massage therapist and a certified Integrative Health Coach. In addition, Dawn has a diverse background in studio arts, psychology, and interior design. After spending over 20 years in San Francisco, she and her husband, Steve, moved to San Rafael with their two sons, who now attend RVC. Dawn has worked to advocate for science-based reading instruction and allergy awareness in school and is passionate about raising awareness of these issues in her community.

Jeff Wilcox, Treasurer - Parent Member

Jeff is a California native, growing up in the San Francisco Peninsula, attending UCLA, and now living in Marin since 2016.  He is the proud parent of a current RVC student as well as having a recent RVC graduate.  He has a degree in Chemical Engineering but has worked as a Partner in a commercial real estate firm based in San Francisco for 17 years.  

His background is in finance with a focus in credit and transactional underwriting.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors for two independent real estate firms, providing direct input on long range strategic planning and capital allocation.  In the past, Jeff has served as the President of two non-profit organizations focused on commercial real estate engagement.  Those experiences helped him develop skills as a collaborative strategic partner and productive committee member.

He is  a firm believer in the RVC mission and wants to see it continue to provide its inquiry based educational approach for many years to come. 

Laurent Martin - Parent Member

Laurent Martin is a co-owner and photographer for Helena and Laurent Photography, where he combines his artistic passion with creative problem-solving, sales, and marketing skills acquired over nearly two decades of business ownership. Recognized for his outstanding communication skills, he has worked with hundreds of clients from all walks of life, helping them navigate stressful situations with patience and composure. His professional experiences range from owning and running a web design business to managing and performing with a traveling Circus, showcasing his versatility and ability to adapt to diverse professional environments.

Laurent considers himself a lifelong learner. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Bard College and currently pursuing a Master of Counseling Psychology degree at Dominican University, he brings a strong work ethic and well-rounded perspective to all his endeavors. As the father of two young boys at Ross Valley Charter, his commitment to their education and the community that supports it is deeply ingrained. Laurent's entrepreneurial spirit, creative problem-solving, and effective communication skills make him a valuable addition to the board.

Sharon Sagar, Chair - Community Member

Sharon has served as the RVC Board Chair since the school was authorized in 2016.  Sharon Sagar previously served on the Ross Valley School District Board of Trustees for over 14 years.  Sharon was an active founding member of the Innovative Learning Community/MAP (the program our founding teachers taught in, prior to going charter) and has spent almost 30 years supporting public school educational choice for families in the Ross Valley area. She is committed to collaborative decision-making and partnerships between administration, teachers and parents in public education. Sharon currently works in a school business office. 

Yesenia Zuluaga - Parent Member

Yesenia's background is in child development. She has a degree in Psychology and a masters in Intercultural Youth and Family Development. Yesenia served as a youth development volunteer in the Peace Corps. She has taught preschool, elementary, and middle school, held positions as a behavioral therapist and family counselor, and worked at Stanford University at the Language Learning Lab, developing programs for early childhood outcomes aiming to reduce the gap in school readiness between low income families of Hispanic descent and their middle and upper class peers. 

Yesenia is currently the director of adult education at a real estate firm, the founding board member of the Hispanic employee resource group and DEI ambassador for my department. She is wildly passionate about all things learning and of course, RVC.
