As part of our induction package for Year 7 pupils every pupil in Year 7 will attend an Activity Day in late September/early October with the rest of their tutor group. The venue is at the UKY Avon Tyrrell Centre in the New Forest and the purpose of the day is to build trust and develop relationships within each tutor group. Each pupil will participate in a range of activities throughout the day and these will include a variety of water and land based activities – all of which involve teamwork.
The dates for each tutor group this year are as follows:
● Monday 22nd September for 7DLE & 7RST
● Wednesday 24th September for 7RDE & 7SST
● Tuesday 30th September for 7WPE & 7ATA
● Thursday 2nd October for 7DSO & 7GHA
● Friday 10th October for 7CBR
Students should travel to school as normal as we will not leave until 9.00am. However, we will not return until 4.30pm so you may need to arrange alternative transport home. Could you please write a note in their planner to confirm how they will be collected at 4.30pm or whether they will be making their own way home so we can dismiss them safely.
The Students will need:
1 set* of spare dry clothes - they should be wearing a set that they are prepared to get wet and muddy
2 pairs of trainers - wearing 1 pair that can get wet/muddy (these can be water/rock shoes instead)
A warm jumper, suntan cream and a coat – whatever the weather as it could change during the day!
A packed lunch and snacks as we will be extremely active all day (If you get free school meals your son/daughter will be provided with a packed lunch)
A drinks bottle filled with water that can be refilled (No energy drinks)
Mobile Phones are not allowed as there will be several different school groups on site during the day and there is no secure location to lock them away. Students may hand phones to staff to be stored securely in school and collected at the end of the day but ideally they should be left at home.
*a set of clothes means shorts/trousers, t-shirt, socks and underwear
The Avon Tyrrell experience is a key part of our transition programme and supports our students to develop their tutor group identity and to gel together as a group. It is therefore only on very rare occasions that a pupil would not attend.
The price of this trip will be £57.50 which includes both transport costs and a full day of activities at the centre. We would normally offer a payment plan for July, August and September but as we are changing our payment software this summer you will not be able to make any payments until your child starts in September. If your child is in receipt of free school meals then you will be eligible for a discount – please contact me if you wish to take up this offer and if you have any other queries around payment. A consent form will be sent out when we return to school in September. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch at abettiss@theromseyschool.org.
