Component 3, Section A - Noughts & Crosses
Noughts & Crosses, by Malorie Blackman, adapted by Sabrina Mahfouz, NHB/Pilot Theatre Edition. You all have copies of the play, but if you need one, here is the correct edition. Noughts & Crosses Pilot Theatre text
There is currently no Noughts & Crosses revision book for drama, which you can buy in a shop, but there are lots of resources on the drive, such as this one, which is packed with useful information: Noughts & Crosses Eduqas information pack [There is a revision guide for the AQA syllabus, but this is for a different adaptation of the story, so avoid this one as it will just confuse you.]
Knowledge organisers: Knowledge organiser, Alternative knowledge organiser,
How to structure an acting question [15 marks, use of movement]
How to structure a design question [12 marks, set and props in the round]
Use our scene by scene breakdown table to plan your staging for each section of the play.
Here is a short article about costume, hair and makeup for Noughts and Crosses.
Go to the Eduqas website to access past papers. Remember, papers before 2023 will not have Noughts & Crosses questions (we used to study DNA) but you can still get an idea of the kinds of questions to expect. This is a document which uses past questions for other plays, but changes them to fit Noughts and Crosses.
Use the videos on the left of the screen to watch clips from the actual original production by Pilot Theatre. There is a dramatisation of the novel on BBC iPlayer, but it is very different from the play, and we do not advise that you use it as a revision tool.
Component 3, Section B - Spledid's Ubu
Get to know about how Kerry and the team created Ubu, including breakdowns of characters and techniques, by reading Splendid's Ubu education pack
We have subscribed to the streaming version of Ubu, available from the Splendid Productions website. Instructions about how to login are here.
Here are knowledge organisers from the exam board which focus on the acting skills and Interpretation, audience, style and space.
Go to the Ubu folder in our Google Drive, including Tell Me 5 sheets, how to logon to watch Ubu, lessons slides, Mr Wilson's video commentaries, PPE feedback, etc. Also, here is the shared version of the Tell Me 5 that Y11 created previously.
