The 5 E’s- Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate (Secondary): The 5 E’s is a lesson plan framework using 5 phases of learning. It develops inquiry based learning practice in the classroom or professional setting.

  • Engage is the hook that peaks interest.

  • Explore is a study of various resources that is usually self directed.

  • Explain checks student understanding and can provide valuable feedback opportunities.

  • Elaborate extends what has already been learned to other related concepts.

  • Evaluate shows student learning to both the teacher and the student through formal and informal assessments.

Backward Design (Elementary): The learning goal for this micro-credential is to familiarize teachers with backwards design and help them to use it in forming their own unit plan in the subject of their choice. You will be exploring the components of backward design and will use what you have learned to apply it to your classroom. You will create a unit plan using backward design and share artifacts of how you used it in your classroom.

Backward Design (Secondary): For this badge, you will learn how to plan your lessons/units using backwards design to focus your lessons on what your students need to know, promote a deeper understanding of concepts or ideas, and to guide instructional strategies with the end result in mind. Explore some of the resources on utilizing backwards design within the classroom. Discover how educators are using backwards design to ensure that students are learning state standards with a deeper understanding by beginning each unit with the final assessment and developing learning activities and formative assessments to support the end goal.

Differentiation (Elementary): Teachers use whole group instruction, but tailors independent practice based on different student needs and preferences. Empowering students to take ownership of their learning by providing them multiple pathways to demonstrate mastery. The students meet the requirements given to them based on their needs.

Learning Objectives:

  • During this module the educator will choose an article and submit a response to both differentiation questions.

  • A lesson plan will be submitted that supports differentiated instruction using one of the following examples below:

*Literature circles around different text but same theme.

*Grouping students based on levels but delivering same content.

*Create a choice board that supports differentiation.

Differentiation (Secondary): This badge is designed to explain and share strategies for differentiation content, process, product and learning environment. As resources are explored, the learner is asked to consider which strategies they could see themselves using and who could benefit from those strategies. Learners are asked to plan an activity or activities that exhibit differentiation in each of the areas. They are also asked to identify how the differentiation is beneficial and how it addresses the needs of the various students in their class, such as EC, 504’s, AIG, ESL, etc.

Inquiry Based Strategies and Protocols (Secondary): This course includes ways to incorporate inquiry based strategies into the classroom.
