Mastery Learning (Secondary): In this course, you will examine students mastering learning. Students move at their own pace and do not move on until achieve mastery of 80%. This allows a student to move to a more student-centered classroom.

Feedback and Conferencing (Secondary): How can teachers use feedback and conferencing to enhance instruction? How can teachers and students keep track of these conversations?

Evidence Based Strategies (Elementary): Educators will explore articles and videos on many strategies and reflect on they will utilize the strategies in their classroom. This badge will also you to explore several strategies from each category. As educators, we must continue to add to our toolbox, because every child is different, and we owe it to our students to grow along with them.

Evidence-Based Strategies & Protocols (Secondary): In this course, you will examine strategies and protocols other teachers are using in their classrooms to personalize learning.

Formative Assessments (Elementary): Formative Assessments are a great way to gauge your students’ learning. They help you determine which students are on their way to mastering a skill and which students need additional support. You can use formative assessments to help guide your instruction in order to meet the needs of your students. For this badge, you will learn more about using formative assessments in your classroom. There are several resources to help you learn more about how to use them, as well as, a bunch of examples of formative assessments. You will also have the chance to create a formative assessment to use with a standard you will be teaching.

Authentic Assessments (Elementary): Authentic assessment is a way to ensure that we as teachers more accurately gauge students’ mastery of the learning objective. Examples include formative and summative assessments- rubrics (both teacher and student-created), artistic creations/performances (as in the fine arts)- anything that allows the student to apply his/her knowledge of the material in order to complete a task. You will show your understanding of Authentic Assessment by:

  1. Creating a Learning Activity using the template provided

  2. Uploading at least two anonymous student samples

  3. Completing the reflection questions

Universal Design (Elementary): The focus of this course is to: Create expert learners; Provides multiple, flexible and variable means of representation, action and engagement; Goal setting, evidence based, flexible methods, with media options.

Universal Design for Learning (Secondary): Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework for learning that uses flexible learning environments and accommodates learning differences through multiple ways of representation, expression and engagement. It uses research based strategies proven to be effective with all types of learners.

  • Engagement- stimulate motivation and interest for learning

  • Representation-present information and content in different ways

  • Action and Expression-differentiate the ways that students can express what they know
