How are students identified for placement in the AIG program? A referral to the IP (Identification/Placement) Team can be initiated by a teacher, an administrator, a student, or a parent. Additionally, potential candidates for the AIG program are identified through a screening process that occurs for most students in 3rd grade. In this mass screening, all third grade students take the CogAt - the Cognitive Abilities Test, which can identify areas of potential talent in reading, math, and reasoning skills. In the identification process for students in grades 4-7, the IP Team reviews and considers data from other sources as well: EOG scores, performance assessment tasks, and other measures if needed. K-3 students: RCS delays formal identification until the end of 3rd grade, however students who demonstrate a strong need for differentiation (2 or more years above grade level in reading and/or math) can be referred to the IP Team to determine if additional testing is warranted.
For any student in grades K-12, identification for AIG services can be made at any time that the referral is made to the IP team, if data shows that the student meets the criteria for AIG placement.
