Fundamentals of Hip-Hop
The beat is also known as the ‘drum beat’.
This is usually played using a synthesized drum sound called “The Roland 808’s”.
The riff is a short, repetitive musical phrase - the catchy part!
Traditional Hip Hop, played riffs on piano sounds.
The bassline is similar to a riff, but has a lower pitch. It is repetitive and short. They help accompany the riff.
Most bass lines were played on bass guitars.
