How does the CDC define a COVID-19 "close contact" as referred to in the health matrix?
- any individual within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes; understanding this definition along with guidelines in place will help our district trace any student or staff member who may or may not be exposed to COVID-19
If one school experiences a COVID-19 case, will the other schools close?
Every effort should be made to make school-level decisions that allow schools that are not impacted by active cases to conduct in-person instruction at some level.
If my student is learning remotely at home, will he/she be able to attend band class during the day?
Unless otherwise stated by your school or child's band teacher, students who will be learning remotely from home will not be allowed to attend band class during the day but may attend after school practices. Allowing students to enter at various times throughout the day will make it more difficult to monitor symptoms and temperatures.
How will high school semester test exemptions be handled?
The principals have discussed alternative measures for semester test exemptions, but the school board would need to review the policy and vote on any changes.
How will my child receive their device for remote learning?
Each school will be responsible for distributing remote learning materials; please wait for additional details from your child's school.
How will my child receive instruction at home through remote learning?
Roane County Schools teachers will provide instruction for students who will be learning remotely at home through a variety of methods, both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (recorded). Not all teachers will be serving students learning remotely; some schools may choose to have one teacher for all remote learning students. Individual schools and teachers will be sharing that information with parents as soon as the choice form results are reviewed. Students will not be required to sit in front of a computer screen for 4.5 or 7 hours a day; doing so would not be an acceptable form of instruction or learning.
Will my child who is learning remotely continue to receive special education services?
Yes! Any child receiving special education services through our school district will continue to do so while learning remotely. Special education teachers and service providers will contact families to discuss how their child will receive services and have access to resources.
