6-8 Guidance

Developmental Considerations

Students in grades 6-8 are young adolescents experiencing developmental change and growing increasingly independent. Teachers will connect curricular content to students’ lived experiences in a way that allows them to explore their own identity, remain socially interactive and build community, while offering students choices and a voice in their learning experience. Students in these grades are also becoming increasingly independent in their use of technology, and while they may quickly adapt to new media and technology platforms, they should still be given proper guidance on use, and may need family or caregiver support in initial set-up.
