Our main aim as a PE department is to ensure that you grow to enjoy PE. We want it to be a subject that you are enthused about and a lesson that you can’t wait to get to! We aren’t necessarily interested in finding the best netball player or the best football player; we want our students to develop key skills, both sport specific and also life skills that will help you in other situations potentially away from a PE setting, for example, teamwork and communication skills.
What activities should I expect to take part in over the course of year 7?
Here at Robert May’s you will take part in a range of physical activities across the year. Each sporting activity will be taught over a 2 week block which is the equivalent of 6 lessons. All students should expect to take part in the following sporting activities: Football, Hockey, Rugby(Boys), Tag-Rugby (Girls), Netball, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Gymnastics, Dance, OAA, Fitness, Tennis, Cricket, Rounders and Athletics. Some of these you will revisit twice across the year.
How will my lessons look? Lessons may look slightly different for some activity areas, but as a whole you will look at learning and developing skills that you will then attempt to transfer into a game situation.
What extra opportunities will I expect to see?
At Robert May’s we pride ourselves on providing a huge range of after school activities for our students. These after school clubs seem to get more and more each year and we are continually looking at providing new and exciting clubs for you. At this present moment in time the clubs that you can expect to see are: Boys and Girls Football*, Boys and Girls Basketball*, Boys and Girls Contact Rugby*, Boys and Girls Badminton, Boys and Girls Table Tennis, Girls Netball, Boys and Girls Hockey*, Running Club**, Fitness Club**, Trampolining Club**, Dance Club**, Cheerleading Club**, Athletics Club**, Rounders Club**, Cricket Club** and Girls and Boys Tennis Club*.
*These clubs run at a separate time and are not taught mixed gender
**Open to both boys and girls
