RUSD Civics Showcase
Each year students in Riverside Unified complete civic engagement projects that connect many areas of study in which students regularly engage. These projects may apply to science, technology, engineering, policy, economic, social, environmental, or other areas where society intersects with academics. Students have posed questions, researched, applied their new knowledge, revised their thinking, and taken action. This year, we will highlight the high quality civic work compiled by students at STEM High School. Be sure to watch the mini-documentary videos embedded within these presentations. We commend them on taking positive action to improve society!
DISADVANTAGED YOUTH IN RIVERSIDE:
The issue addressed was finding ways to improve the lives of disadvantaged youth in the Eastside neighborhood of Riverside and promote community success.
STOP AAPI HATE:
Inform AAPI individuals how to leverage their vote to increase their voice in society and government through an informational website.
WHY THE SUBURBS ARE AWFUL:
The suburbs lead to isolation so communities need to promote spaces that connect people.
RUSD CIVICS VISION
Riverside Unified School District seeks to foster a culture of civic mindedness by providing students the opportunities — both inside and outside the classroom — to develop the civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to be actively engaged in a democratic 21st century society.
