The Connecting Classrooms to Congress project will develop and test a social studies curriculum module that enables high school students to study a pressing issue - one that policymakers at the national level are grappling with - and then discuss that issue with their sitting member of Congress through an online deliberative town hall.

Congressman Mark Takano recently participated in Riverside Unified's Connecting Classrooms to Congress annual 12th-grade student research program.
This year's research focused on the climate change policy, including its relationship to governance and economic policy.
Congressman Takano's participation in the virtual town hall at the Martin Luther King High School auditorium, marks the culmination of the research program for the 2022-2023 school year. Participating seniors asked questions about the content they learned and got perspective on legislative matters.
Connecting Classrooms to Congress helps students develop:
Analytical writing
Ability to display integrative complexity
Knowledge of policy and the structure and operations of government
Civic dispositions
