The function of a coach is to educate students through participation in interscholastic competitions. An interscholastic program should be designed to enhance academic achievement and should never interfere with opportunities for academic success. Each student should be treated with the utmost respect, and the coach should always consider his or her welfare in decisions.
The coach shall be aware that he or she has a tremendous influence, for either good or ill, on the student's education and, thus, shall never place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest ideals of character.
The coach shall uphold the honor and dignity of the profession. In all personal contact with students, officials, athletic directors, school administrators, and the public, the coach shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct.
The coach shall promote the entire school program and direct his or her program in harmony with the total school program.
The coach shall master and teach the competition rules to his or her team members.
The coach shall not seek an advantage by circumvention of the spirit or letter of the rules.
The coach shall exert his or her influence to enhance sportsmanship.
The coach shall respect and support officials. The coach shall not indulge in conduct that would incite players or spectators against the officials. Public criticism of officials or players is unethical and will not be tolerated in any form at RIS.
The coach should exchange cordial greetings with the opposing coach to set the correct tone for the event before and after the contest.
The success of an athletic program primarily depends upon the personnel. Coaching assignments are made yearly. Each coaching position will be reviewed on an annual basis.

The selection process will be conducted by the Athletics Office staff, which includes the Athletics Director and Athletics Assistants. Please be reminded that while coaching preferences are taken into consideration, they are not guaranteed. Final decisions regarding coaching placements will be made by the Athletics Director, with a primary focus on student development and the overall growth of the athletics program. *Internal staff with appropriate experience and expertise will be given priority for coaching positions.
When the athletics director is assigning coaching positions, the following actions shall be taken:
The athletic director shall email all staff members each May, posting all positions.
Interested in-school candidates shall be identified first. Possible out-of-school candidates may be considered.
The athletics director shall determine whether the interested candidates possess the necessary qualifications to perform the position's responsibilities.
The athletics director shall notify the interested candidates whether further consideration will be extended based on individual qualifications.
To improve our overall athletics program, it is imperative that coaches and the coaching program, are evaluated on a seasonal basis. A coaching evaluation provides a comprehensive assessment of a coach's effectiveness, focusing on their ability to facilitate team development, achieve performance goals, and enhance individual player skills. RIS Athletics currently employs a coach's evaluation process via both observational methods and student-athlete feedback.
Due to child safeguarding requirements, all coaches must know our travel protocols for away games, local tournaments, and tournaments abroad. Coaches are expected to travel with the team to all games and tournaments, regardless of their location. The Athletics Office will endeavor to complete all fixture schedules before the beginning of each season. However, please be aware that some friendlies and tournaments may be organized and scheduled after the season has begun.
Coaches must be familiar with the RIS Chaperone Policy.
For the mid-season games, which are scheduled as mid-week friendly matches or weekend tournaments, coaches are expected to do the following:
Email parents to remind them of the game approximately one week before.
Inform the Athletics Office of any changes to the player roster. The Athletics Office will forward the correct roster to section administrators approximately two days before the event.
Meet players and take attendance before bus departure
Supervise students while traveling and during the games.
All coaches who work at Ruamrudee International School are required to obtain the following training. Failure to uphold these requirements and expectations may result in the termination of a coach’s employment with RIS Athletics.
RIS coaches must be trained as Emergency First Responders, which includes both primary and secondary care certification.
Coaches must successfully obtain Child Safeguarding certification, which is offered free of charge through the RIS Child Safeguarding Department.
As local and international travel will be part of the coaching requirement throughout the season, all coaches must familiarize themselves with and adhere to the RIS Chaperone Policy.
