Happy Easter - School Reopens on Tuesday 14th April 2026
At Risca Primary School, we actively encourage the celebration of "Welshness" to inspire and stimulate pupils' learning and awareness of the Welsh language and culture. We promote Welsh throughout the school day, encouraging children to speak and respond in Welsh as often as possible.
Welsh is taught as a second language, integrated into the curriculum in a way that reflects real-life events and experiences. We strive to make learning Welsh fun, engaging, and lively, using activities such as songs, dance, drama, and games.
Through stories, legends, and cultural activities, we aim to help children develop a deep appreciation for the rich heritage of Wales.
Our teaching staff, along with the pupils, receive regular support from a Welsh teacher adviser, who visits the school to provide guidance and enrichment.
We understand that learning Welsh can feel like a challenge at first, but starting with the basics can make it easier! To help you get started, click the pictures below to watch YouTube videos that teach you some simple Welsh language.Ā
In addition, weāve created an Everyday Welsh for Families and the Community presentation to support you at home. This resource includes useful Welsh phrases and vocabulary that you can use in daily conversations. We hope it helps you practice together as a family and encourages a fun, interactive way to learn Welsh at home!
