There is no app needed to do a wellness check. Parents are requested to take their child's temperature and monitor for COVID symptoms and not send their child to school if they have a temperature over 99.5 degrees or any symptoms of COVID. Students in all grade levels TK-12th are required to wear face coverings at all times indoors, unless they meet the criteria for a Mask Exemption. Masks may be removed for meals, snacks, naptime or when it needs to be replaced. Staff must always wear a face covering indoors, except when eating. Persons exempted from wearing a face covering due to a medical condition as outlined in the Mask Exemption for Students guidance, must wear a non-restrictive alternative, such as a face shield with a drape on the bottom edge. At this time, all students and staff must continue to wear masks while on campus, including times when they are outdoors (excluding exempted times previously stated in masking guidance). Although CDC provided updated guidance that allows fully vaccinated individuals to remove their masks, this guidance does not apply in the school setting because school-age children are largely unvaccinated at this time. Additionally, Cal/OSHA guidance specifies that employees must continue to wear face coverings in the workplace. Cal/OSHA guidance supersedes CDPH and CDC guidance.

Capacity has been returned to pre-COVID capacity for the 2021-2022 school year. There are no longer social distancing requirements. However, the district will continue to encourage social distancing as much as possible. Other precautions include masking requirements, passive screenings at home, hand sanitizer available in all class, regular hand-washing, and regular sanitizing of all classrooms.

The district will make reasonable accommodations, such as a face shield with a cloth drape, for those who are unable to wear face coverings for medical reasons. The Rio School District has developed protocols regarding student face coverings that outline the steps to take when a student is having difficulty wearing the face covering.

If a child loses their face covering while at school, the school will provide a new face covering for them.

A reusable surgical mask or cloth mask or both will be sufficient.

All restrooms in most parts are hands-free however there is a limited supply of soap dispensers at this time. They will be hands-free as soon as they become available.

In addition to ionizer systems that were added to all Air systems and all schools, the district upgraded all the filters in all campuses to a Merv 10 or Merv 13 which is the recommended type of filters for the virus and bacteria.

The district in conjunction with Ventura Public Health will work collaboratively to appropriately notify impacted families when or if their child has been affected by a positive case in the classroom and/or on campus.

Yes, we request that unvaccinated students remain home if a child, parent, or other member of the household is diagnosed with COVID-19.

The absence will be considered an excused absence and parents can work with the classroom teacher to make up any missed assignments.

At this time we are not requiring test results. However, parents are asked to complete passive symptom screening including temperature checks daily prior to sending students to school.

The California Department of Education and the California Department of Public Health provide guidance to schools about requirements and continue to maintain that transmission of the virus in school settings is minimal if appropriate masking is required. The best prevention for transmission is masking of all, even when vaccinated which is why both adults and students will be required to wear masks indoors on campus and encouraged to wear them outside whenever possible.

Yes, students can return to an in-person setting. However, it will be discouraged to bounce back and forth between programs.

Independent Study will be provided in a group much like a regular class, but may have multiple grade levels and will be a lot of independent work.

Many of our schools are schools of choice and have a waiting list. In order to meet the needs of the community, we will fill our schools of choice with those on the waiting list, if parents decide to enroll their child in the independent study program.
