Summer Music Academy is a wonderful, fun environment for young musicians. This program provides a chance for brand-new musicians to become familiar with their instrument - a huge boost to those starting out. For more experienced musicians, SMA provides a friendly place to practice playing in a group, work on technique, and enjoy the social, creative aspects of being a musician. This is one of Ridgewood's true gems!
My daughter has participated in Summer Music Academy for the past two years and has really enjoyed it! She was challenged in her groups but has risen to that challenge and is proud of her accomplishments. SMA keeps kids playing each day for a good portion of the summer and helps prepare them for the upcoming school year. It’s been a great experience all around!
Both of my kids have flourished in the Summer Music Academy for years. My older daughter has not only enjoyed taking the classes, but now has taken a leadership role as a high school student and looks forward to it every summer. My younger daughter participated in Summer Music for the first time last year and talks about how excited she is to do it again this year. She chose the French horn as a fifth grader and Summer Music really helped her gain confidence as she started with middle school band. It's got something for everyone at every level!
My girls loved the 2023 summer session. They made friends with kids ranging from 3rd grade to high school. They were excited about practicing their instruments and they were also excited about what other classes were playing.
My child’s favorite part of SMA was picking up a brand new instrument in a concentrated period of time which allowed him to really focus on and enjoy learning it.
