Our elective classes offer a fun and engaging way to expand your musical knowledge or explore your creativity in the art studio! Open to ALL students, regardless of instrument, skill level, or experience, these classes provide the perfect opportunity to try something new, develop new skills, and deepen your appreciation for music and the arts. Whether you're looking to sharpen your abilities or simply have fun creating, there's something for everyone! 

Studio Art | 8:15 AM, 9:00 AM, 9:45 AM, 10:35 AM, 11:20 AM

Do you like to draw, paint, or just create? Whatever medium you prefer, this course will teach you the design elements and principles needed to create a work of art and explore your artistic inspirations. You’ll travel back in time and across the world to look at art from different cultures, and learn about the art of critiquing. Let’s turn your creative dreams into reality! All levels of student are welcome. Each class will be designed to fit each individual student's interests! An additional $25 will be charged as a Supply Fee for this course. 

Ukulele | 8:15 AM

Students will explore the basics of playing the ukulele! Through engaging songs and activities, they'll learn simple chords, strumming patterns, and how to play along with their favorite tunes. No prior experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and get ready to make music! By the end of SMA, students will be able to play songs, accompany themselves, and gain confidence as young musicians. Ukuleles will be provided, or students may bring their own. 

Jump Into Music! | 9:45 AM (K-3) - NEW!!!!

Get ready to sing, move, and play in this fun-filled introduction to music! In Jump Into Music!, young musicians will explore the world of sound through singing, rhythm games, movement, and hands-on activities. Students will discover basic musical concepts like beat, melody, and dynamics while playing instruments, dancing, and engaging in creative musical play. Perfect for energetic learners, this class makes music exciting and interactive—because the best way to learn music is to experience it! 

Bucket Drumming | 9:45 AM

Unlock the rhythmic potential within you with our exhilarating Bucket Drumming ensemble class! Discover the captivating world of percussion using everyday items like buckets, drumsticks, and your own creativity. Led by our experienced percussion instructor, this class is perfect for beginner and seasoned drummers, as well as ANY instrumentalist! All you need is a sense of rhythm, a willingness to learn, and a bucketload of enthusiasm. Join us and unleash your rhythmic creativity today!

Music Theory & Composition | 10:35 AM

Unlock the building blocks of music and bring your own compositions to life! This introductory-to-intermediate class explores essential musical principles, including scales, intervals, melody, harmony, chord progressions, and musical form. Students will develop a deeper understanding of how music works while applying their knowledge to create original pieces. Whether you're a performer looking to strengthen your theory skills or an aspiring composer eager to write your own music, this class will provide the foundation and creativity to help you grow as a musician! 

Improvisation | 11:20 AM

Discover the art of creating music on the spot! This class is highly recommended for all jazz band students and anyone looking to build confidence in their soloing skills. Students will learn how to craft improvised solos using essential techniques such as chord outlines, rhythmic variation, and major, minor, and blues scales. Through guided exercises and playing opportunities, students will develop their musical ear, creativity, and personal style. Whether you're new to improvisation or looking to refine your skills, this class will give you the tools to take your solos to the next level! 

Songwriting | 9:00 & 11:20 AM

Discover the art of songwriting from start to finish! In this hands-on class, students will learn how to craft their own songs by exploring essential elements like lyric writing, melody creation, chord progressions, and basslines. Through listening and analysis, we’ll break down songs by successful artists to understand what makes a strong hook, effective song structure, and compelling arrangements. Whether you're a budding songwriter or just curious about the creative process, this class will give you the tools and inspiration to bring your musical ideas to life!
